DCA Cracks Down on Illegal Drug Stockpiles in Private Hyderabad Hospitals

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Drugs Control Administration (DCA), in collaboration with the Prohibition and Excise Department, conducted a joint operation on November 7 and 8, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances stored illegally in two private hospitals in Hyderabad. Authorities confiscated injections of fentanyl, ketamine, and midazolamโ€”medications commonly used for anesthesiaโ€”from premises at Bakoban Hospital in Chandrayangutta and BVK Reddy Hospital in Warasiguda, Secunderabad.

An official reported that the confiscated items included fentanyl ampoules with a concentration of 50 mcg/ml, illegally stocked for sale without an NDPS license, as well as ketamine hydrochloride injections (50 mg/ml) and midazolam vials (1 mg/ml).

During the operation, the narcotics were seized from Abdul Rahman, the owner of Bakoban Hospital, and T Naresh Kumar at BVK Reddy Hospital. Cases have been filed under the NDPS Act at the Charminar and Musheerabad prohibition and excise stations. โ€œFurther investigations are underway, and strict legal action will follow against all those involved,โ€ said DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy. He warned of the serious health risks associated with unlicensed narcotic drugs, emphasizing the dangers of addiction, which can lead to respiratory depression, coma, and even death. “Any unlicensed dealings with narcotic drugs will face stringent enforcement,” he added.
